Yes and yes would be the obvious answer here, but I plead diminished responsibility on the grumpy front as I feel provoked!
I’ll not bore you with the details, but I am trying to by something, its not for millions but a few grand and the service is just woeful. Everything is too much effort, even getting the salesman to return my calls seems a major challenge. It feels like they are trying to make it as difficult as possible for me to buy.
And it just winds me up!
So I thought’d have a rant about it on here then realised that I’d had rant a few years ago about exactly the same thing – which made me grumpier still that things aren’t changing!
Anyway is that article – hopefully it serves as a good reminder to check your basics!
Now you know me, I’m not really the ranty type….but the last few days have pushed me close…
In the course of the last couple of weeks I have tried to buy stuff from people who sell the stuff I want to buy – crazy I know – but through general muppetry and bad practice it has been made inordinately hard.
The companies involved have just done/or not done really simple stuff that is turning a willing purchaser into a grumpy middle aged – (ish) bloke from the shires…
Let me give you a couple of examples.
1) As is the case in our house generally – at least one part is falling down at any given point. This time it was something in the garden that needed attention. A lovely bloke comes round, gives us a good quote, we say yes and book a date in to start – and he just never turns up. Again and again he texts to say he is coming on a specific date – then nothing. My patience breaks and we get someone else round to do the job, then get a grumpy text from initial man when we tell him we won’t be needing him!
2) Booking a room for a business meeting in Nottingham, I ask them to come back to me with a price if we commit to taking the room for a full day every month…2 weeks later and I have heard nothing.
And don’t get me started on the electrician who has put me on his marketing email list but STILL hasn’t sent me the quote he promised to send me after visiting my house at the end of last year… (UPDATE; Incidentally this guy got in touch the other day to ask if I’d like any work doing – I’m still waiting for the quote from the first job – THREE YEARS AGO) )
And I know that nobody is perfect – least of all me – so I mean this as a “heads up” for you all to check what your processes are and make sure that as many of the gaps a filled up as possible so you are not losing great swathes of customers down them.
The message here is – you can do all the cool stuff you want but if your BASICS are not up to scratch you may as well keep the money in your pocket.
I’ll calm down now.
